Plantation Laura

Plantation Laura

About this experience

Laura Plantation is one of the last Creole plantations in Louisiana. Situated on the banks of the Mississippi, in the middle of the sugar cane fields, it is considered one of the most faithful testimonies in the history of Louisiana for two centuries. Unlike neoclassical style plantations (white houses with colonnades), Creole plantations can be recognized by their architecture, their wooden design and their very colorful facades. Laura Plantation has many typical characteristics of these polychrome constructions: a gallery, wide doors, a red roof, yellow walls, cypress beams, an exhibition facing the Mississippi and an elevation, a guarantee of protection in the event of flooding . This very moving plantation is the only one still standing that belonged to French people. The Anglo-Saxons then had to stop only to fragment the Creole plantations to redistribute them to Americans ... Laura is a survivor. *** INFO *** - Visit every day from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. except New Year’s Day, Mardi Gras Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, July 4 and December 24, the last tour begins at noon. - Visit in French at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. - Free parking on site
